Young voices take the stage

Sometimes the most powerful change comes from a microphone and a little courage.

Recently, we had the privilege of supporting a Slam Poetry event at Ulladulla High School, led by student Rachel Darvell as part of her Big Picture learning project.

Rachel took on every part of the planning. She booked the venue, arranged for poet Andrew Cox to run a creative workshop and set the stage for students to speak their truth.

The result was a raw and emotional showcase of poetry that explored identity, injustice and social issues with honesty. The courage these students showed was nothing short of inspiring.

Our Community Engagement Manager Caroline Boland, was on hand and said the experience stayed with her long after the final performance.

“There was so much depth in the stories shared. These young people didn’t hold back,” said Caz.

“They used their voices to talk about things that matter and they did it with real strength. Rachel showed incredible leadership and we’re proud to support students like her. The room was full of genuine courage and it reminded all of us how important it is to create space for youth voices.”
