Drone to the rescue
At this year’s Milton Folk, Jazz and Blues Festival, our Community Engagement Manager Caz got chatting with Marianne from ORRCA, and one quick conversation turned into something pretty special.
Marianne mentioned the team was just shy of being able to buy a drone. Caz’s answer was simple: “We’ll give you that.” Needless to say, Marianne was over the moon.
ORRCA, the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia, is the only volunteer group in New South Wales licensed for marine mammal rescue, rehabilitation and release.
The team spends a lot of time searching for entangled marine life and carrying out important research.
For a land-based organisation, a drone is a game changer. It means they can get eyes on a situation without anyone needing to head out on the water, which means better preparation and better results from the work they do.
