Seventy years of juniors

For seventy years, the junior rugby league club in Milton Ulladulla has been doing the quiet, important work that every strong community relies on: giving local kids somewhere to belong.

That milestone was celebrated at the club's recent presentation night, where players, families, coaches and volunteers came together to mark seven decades of junior footy on the South Coast. It is no small effort. Seventy years means generations of local children lacing up the boots, learning to win and lose with grace, and finding their feet as part of a team.

Our Community Engagement Manager Caz Boland, was there for the night, and headed up on stage to present medals.

She said, "Seventy years is a huge achievement and you could feel everyone in the room being so proud of that history. It all starts with the juniors and this club has given so many kids their start".

One moment stood out. Among the night's slides was a look back at the local juniors who began right here and went on to play at the professional level, a reminder of just how far a small-town field can take a kid with a bit of talent and a lot of support.

"What really hit home was that slide showing locals who've gone on to play professionally. It all starts here, with the volunteers and families who gets involved week in, week out".

Behind every one of those seventy years is a long line of people who never asked for recognition: the parents running the canteen, the coaches giving up their weekends, the committee members keeping the whole thing ticking along. A club does not reach this kind of milestone by accident. It gets there because a community keeps showing up.
