Recipes that give back

A simple community cookbook is now doing something pretty special... helping raise funds to support children and young people with their education.
South Coast Community Bank was proud to see the impact of our support, which helped cover printing costs for a member-created cookbook filled with recipes contributed by the group and even a few from the wider community.
Since being printed, the cookbook has already raised $1200, with funds going towards programs that support children experiencing disadvantage through their education journey, from primary school through to high school.
The funding will contribute to a broad range of educational supports, including literacy, numeracy, technology, mentoring and culturally responsive programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. It also helps back initiatives like Learning for Life, which supports students to stay engaged in education and work towards positive long-term outcomes.
South Coast Community Bank Community Engagement Manager Caroline Boland said the project was a wonderful example of how community groups can turn small ideas into real impact.
“Sometimes the most powerful community projects start with something simple. In this case, a cookbook created by members has already raised funds that will help support children and young people with their education. That is the kind of local impact we love to see", she said.
What makes this project so meaningful is the ripple effect. A locally printed cookbook, built from shared recipes and community spirit, has become a practical way to help young people access opportunities to learn, grow and thrive.
Another example of community banking in action... backing community-led ideas that keep giving.
