Seeing Our Funding in Action

Our Business Development Manager Leah Spiers and Community Engagement Manager Caroline Boland were lucky enough to head out on the Marine Rescue Kioloa vessel recently to see Community Bank South Coast funding in action.

Community Bank South Coast provided $8,000 to fund two Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) cameras which are essential search and rescue operational equipment for the vessel. A FLIR camera is a thermal imaging camera that significantly increases the probability of detecting persons or objects in the water and supports safe navigation at night during search and rescue operations.

Caroline said the experience brought the impact of the equipment to life straight away.

“I loved it. I could see a canoe on the shoreline that certainly wasn’t visible to the others onboard,” Caroline said.

“It was such a unique experience. To think this equipment can really improve the responsiveness of the crew simply because they can actively move around the boat and have eyes everywhere quicker is a great outcome.”
